Dear Comrade is the brilliance of former Stellastarr* drummer Arthur Kremer. What started as a summer side project two years ago is now a fully developed band of five exceptional musicians with their first EP on its way. Eclectic, classic and honest; Dear Comrade is a band that owns their craft but implements subtleties.

What’s immediately interesting about DC is Kremer’s transition from background to foreground. Through pursuing his own creative ventures, Kremer writes the soundtrack of our lives. The melodies are catchy and heartfelt and just about anyone with a pulse can relate to the lyrics. Although Kremer’s songwriting is easily digestible, he possesses an ability to tie in just enough personal sentiment avoiding the stereotypical rock ballad label.

First on board, Miz Stefani (aka DeX), is a chorus girl stolen from the Reverend Billy Choir. Seized immediately for her impressive vocal capabilities and witty comebacks, “Tango” was their first baby together. It’s Stefani’s batty narrative about a real-life stalker that hooks Tango and makes it rock solid.

Emmett Aiello makes his debut into the music world as the third comrade, and although he is still a little wet behind the ear, Aiello’s guitar leads would never betray him. With a soul for Rock’n Roll, the textured, twanging, grumbling guitars are Aiello’s influence steering Dear Comrade away from Kremer’s Euro-pop tendencies.

Who says you can’t find anything good on Craigslist? Well, Dear Comrade found both drummer, Dennis Lehrer (Autodrone), and ironically enough an old touring buddy of Stellastarr*, Tim Jansen from The Hourly Radio. Now complete with drums and bass, DC is hitting the stage and attracting some attention. Do get excited but don’t expect Dear Comrade to be the next “it” thing, it’s not their style.

Remember a band called P.R.O.M. from last week? If so you better start calling them Dear Comrade because it’s official! Stellastarr* drummer Arthur Kremer has put down the drum sticks, picked up a guitar and snatched up choir girl Stefani Pekin from the Reverend Billy Church of Stop Shopping. Although finding a suitable band name was problematic, song writing has proven to be effortless for Kremer who is a prolific writer and is already in the studio with Producer Tim O’Heir cranking out these new tunes.

Curious what they sound like? Well nothing like Stella* but more like a soundtrack to a Spaghetti Western. It’s not ironic or kitsch; it’s pure, earnest, honest and absolutely worth your listen. Come get trashed at Trash Bar April 19th and see for yourself.

What an amazing performance at The Highline Ballroom Thursday night! I wish there were a way to incorporate at least one more star in their name, because Stellastarr* deserves it. Shawn Christensen stole the show,  took back his stage, and put the “Rock” back in Rock Star! If you are one of the people  downloading Civilized for “free” you better get your ass’s to the show and help  support their tour. Nothing is  free, and it was the I pod that killed the radio starr*

Stellastarr* is on the road again in support of their third full length album CIVILILZED.  I had the opportunity to hang with the Stars during a very special recording session at Sirus radio where exclusive versions of  Graffiti EyesUnderneath the Knife, and Warchild were recorded live on air! If you missed their interview/guest DJ spot last week, not to worry they will be airing these exclusive tracks again July 22nd through the 25th through out the day for your audio pleasure!

New York, give these guys a warm welcome back and show your support at The Highline Ballroom on July 16th!

Guess who’s about to release their 3rd album, go on a big US tour, and play a big show at The Highline Ballroom? That’s right, Stellastarr* is back and putting the asterisk back in star! After almost a four year hiatus of their 2nd album release Harmonies for the Haunted and parting ways with the RCA/BMG/SONY behemoth, most people thought this new-wave quartette fizzled out like a sweet soda pop. Instead like a fine wine maturing with age, they have taken their time and newly found freedom to put together an album  they are proud to call their own.

July 6th through the 10th SS* will be guest hosting on Sxmu with Jake Folgenast from 10-11am Eastern Time. They will also be performing live on air some of the tracks from Civilized, their new album that will drop on July 7th!!!  You can also catch a peek of Civilized on myspace, as they release one-minute samples of some of their new material!

Hope to see you at The Highline, hope it doesn’t sell out before you decide to get off your lazy butts and buy the tickets.
