I’m waiting for Mattel to patent rock n’ roll action figures based off The Suzan, Japan’s sweeter than sugar, cuter than pie, Garage Rock band. If you like Cibo Matto, then definitely check it out!

Remember a band called P.R.O.M. from last week? If so you better start calling them Dear Comrade because it’s official! Stellastarr* drummer Arthur Kremer has put down the drum sticks, picked up a guitar and snatched up choir girl Stefani Pekin from the Reverend Billy Church of Stop Shopping. Although finding a suitable band name was problematic, song writing has proven to be effortless for Kremer who is a prolific writer and is already in the studio with Producer Tim O’Heir cranking out these new tunes.

Curious what they sound like? Well nothing like Stella* but more like a soundtrack to a Spaghetti Western. It’s not ironic or kitsch; it’s pure, earnest, honest and absolutely worth your listen. Come get trashed at Trash Bar April 19th and see for yourself.

Kool Man

Guess which lyrical twins are back in studio mode working on their next album? Not the Cocteau Twins but it’s a good guess considering that guitarist Robin Gurthie produced their debut album White Music for Black People. Still don’t know? How about brothas Daniel and Danny Chavis of Apollo Heights who are currently working on their sophomore release Shocking fuzz of your Electric Fur. It was my pleasure to spend an evening with these wild rockers running around Williamsburg shining bright lights in their faces while catching up, catching drinks and getting right down to business.

A sneak peek into one of their new singles suggest that Shocking Fuzz might be an expression of melancholy but the kind that makes you satisfied wallowing in your own self-pity. Interested in checking it out? They have two big shows coming up at the Highline Ballroom and on May 2nd Irving Plaza with Echo and the Bunnymen. No info yet on an expected release date but Apollo are definitely back and black.
