On the road and celebrating their 1st headlining US tour, Ponytail is a band to see live if they come to your neck of the woods. They never disappoint and always delight their audience and are the best live act I’ve seen so far this year. I had the opportunity to meet with them before their Music Hall of Williamsburg show to learn about their musical whimsy.
Q. What is some of the best new bands you are currently listening to?
A. A lot of music coming out of the UK Scene, bands like Gentle Friendly, Banjo or Freakout, Cold Pumas, and Peepholes.
Q. Other than Music, where do you find inspiration to write music?
A. The visual arts, in particular abstract art and conceptual photography. The methods of how music culture works in a cultural context, for instance the scene that evolves around a band. Fashion is also an inspiration, old 60’s and 70’s R&B and Punk aesthetics.
Q. What song by another artist do you wish you wrote?
A. “Synchronicity” – The Police, “Planet Rock”-Afrika Bambaataa, “No Woman No Cry”- Bob Marley, “An Angel Moves to Fast to See”-Rhys Chatham, “All About the Benjamin”,” Gypsy Go Your Own Way”-Fleetwood Mac, Johann Sebastian Bach, and “Turn the page”- Bob Seger.
Q. What is your favorite song by your own band?
A. G Shock and then also Beg Wave.
Q. What is your future ambition with Ponytail?
A. No ambition, where ever it will take us. We want to continue to travel, record, and create things never done before in music
Also something else you should know…
